'Since 2005, two International Children's Villages of the World Friends have been organized during the summer: one in July, outside the region, the other in August, still in Gravelines. If we do the math, this means, at the end of this 2019 edition, fifteen villages will have already been organized in July and fifteen more in August, or 30 villages and 1,200 children will have passed through Gravelines.
After Aix-en-Provence in July, the 350 children of the 30th village will take over the Daullet farm site from August 3 to 26. "Among them," emphasizes Christian Hogard, founding director of the International Children's Village Copain du monde, "we will of course welcome, as we have done since the first year, young Sahrawi refugees. Alongside them, we will find groups from Nepal, Ethiopia, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, Central African Republic, Quebec, Burkina Faso, Kosovo, Guatemala, Portugal, etc."
“An undeniable added value”
A major new feature this year is the cultural dimension that the village will take on, which will notably be reflected in the presence, throughout the month of August, of the Libre d'esprit company, whose artistic director is Nikson Pitaqaj, who is also vice-president of the Avignon Off festival. "This company will be at the heart of the village to continue the creation of a major theatrical performance on Monday, August 19, at the Scène Vauban," announces Christian Hogard.
Among the other highlights (see below), a tribute will be paid to Julien Lauprêtre, the iconic president of Secours populaire, and also a close friend of Christian Hogard, who passed away on April 26. "His memory will be omnipresent in our village," he confided. And as Bertrand Ringot has just announced, the town will soon decide to name a road in Gravelines after Julien Lauprêtre.
The village's partners: the town of Gravelines (which redeveloped the Daullet farm site to fully meet safety standards), Secours Populaire, the Éclaireuses et Éclaireurs de France, Atout Ville, Alefpa (Secular Association for Education, Training, Prevention and Autonomy), Libre d'Esprit, the Essaimances association, the Hauts-de-France football league (for the village football tournament).'
